Nearly 300 publicly nominated places across East Anglia
Over 500 artists’ proposals
10 new art commissions
The New Geographies project was inspired by unique places that were nominated by the public in 2017. These locations express a range of personal thoughts, reflections and stories about unexplored or over-looked places. Around 50 nominations were received for Hatfield, St Albans and wider Hertfordshire.
Artists responded to the nominated sites with proposals and the selected artists developed new work. These ambitious final artworks involved events, performances, film screenings and temporary structures in the landscape: each sensitively responding to its specific location(s). Together the nominations and artworks create a new map of East Anglia.
Art for All: Jane Glynn worked with UHArts to share the project with people around Hertfordshire and Essex through a range of participatory workshops. The first workshops introduced the project and the artists Krijn de Kooning and Stuart Whipps. The latter workshops focused on Stuart’s project ‘New Town Stories’.
