Temporal Sequences 2012 – 2023

This work, made over the past twelve years, interrogates time, movement and change.

Working in a variety of media I formulate time-based drawing and making tasks, leading to visual outcomes over set periods of time; this process enables me to both mark time and create personal icons for the passing of time. The rhythmical documenting and mapping of passages of time relates to the tradition of personal diaries, memoirs and journals and is both an act of meditation and a trace of a subjective journey.

By creating an on-going timeline I  attempt to create a thread of truth.  This has to take into account the way personal and external realities are in a constant state of flux.  The work becomes a metaphor for the way in which all histories evolve, grow, change, fade and are reconfigured depending on changes in personal perspectives and current universal ideas.

The slow method of creating this work responds well to a slow, close-up viewing. The work is always organized differently depending on where it is shown. Sometimes people are invited to interact with it. And sometimes dancers or performers help bring the work to life.
