St Columba’s colour workshop

longIn Autumn 2015 Jane worked with staff and year 3 children at St Columba’s to explore colour mixing with different media. After an initial discussion about where colours come from, primary and secondary colours and the many ways the colour wheel can be divided up into finite colours or an infinite gradual transformation from one colour to the next, the group created abstract pictures and lanterns using coloured pencils, beeswax crayons, paints and waxed tissue paper. Using the three primary colours, the boys experimented to see how many colours they could make with each medium.
